Fifteen manufacturing companies won Green Industry Awards 2010 announced on the awarding ceremony of Green Industry at Jakarta Convention Center Saturday evening.
During a press conference, it was mentioned that the fifteen companies included five of them - winning the category of small-medium scale industry, five companies - winning the category of large scale industry, and the other five – winning the category of state-owned companies.
Chairman of the jury, Arif Safari, stated that, from the fifteen companies, they decided to choose three winners for each category. For the large scale industry category, PT Holcim Indonesia (cement producer) became the first winner; PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (paper mill) won the second position; and PT Tri Polyta Indonesia (plastic producer) won the third prize.
For the state-owned company category, PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (fertilizer producer) was judged able to prioritize its eco-product concept, therefore deserving to win the first position; PT Semen Gresik (Persero) Tbk (cement producer) successfully won the second position; and PT Krakatau Steel (steel works) got the third position.
For the small-medium scale industry category, he explained, PT Ekanindya Karsa, a producer of shoes and bags made of crocodile skin, successfully won the first position. The second winner was PT Majestic Buana Group, producing recycled plastic materials. And PT AKAS which produces crafts made from coconut fiber succeeded to win the third position.
According to Industry Minister, MS Hidayat, the Green Industry Awards 2010 could become the starting point for industries to manufacture eco-products.
68 companies took part in the competition. They included 43 big scale companies, 13 small-medium scale businesses, and 12 companies from the category of state-owned companies
